Moxibustion Therapy
- Boosts Energy Reserves
- Improves Circulation
- Prevents Disease
- Promotes Longevity
Moxibustion is an ancient therapy in Traditional Chinese Medicine that is particularly effective in preventing illness. It is the harmless, painless process of burning Moxa, (the dried leaves of the common Mugwort (Artemeisa) plant,) on Acupuncture needles that are inserted in the body for quick absorption. It provides gentle heat and tonifies the meridians. To suit different therapeutic needs, the Moxa can also be made into a small cone and burned over skin through an herbal cake. It is a highly effective way to increase the body’s energy, boost the immune system, strengthen sexual function, and balance hormones.
Moxibustion has the function of warming and clearing the meridians and tonifying the body's energy. Different points are employed for specialized treatments and preventive care needs. The practitioner diagnoses each patient individually and prescribes a healthcare plan based on their specific diagnosis and presentation. Moxibustion is particularly effective in the treatment of arthritis, asthma, fatigue, chronic pain, chronic bronchitis, stomachache, sexual dysfunction, menopause and conditions related to aging.
Patients should not receive Moxibustion if they have a fever, cold, flu, infectious conditions, mouth sores, hepatitis, or high blood pressure. Furthermore, pregnant women should avoid Moxibustion on the abdominal and lumbosacral regions.
Anyone with numbness in the arms, legs, feet, or toes should not undergo Moxibustion therapy.
Summer Moxibustion:
According to TCM theory, Moxibustion is best performed during the summer, as the pores of our skin open wider and outer substances are more easily absorbed. Moxibustion can be performed year-round in the treatment of various diseases. For preventive care, it is done three times a year during the First Summer, Middle Summer, and End Summer periods of the Chinese Lunar Calendar, which fall between the months of June to August.
